Ethereum ETF Outpace Bitcoin Funds in Capital Inflows, and Ethereum Outperforms Bitcoin

0 Reading time: 8 min. Сoinspot

Ethereum ETFs in the US have attracted more net capital for the second week in a row than spot funds for Bitcoin, and Ethereum itself has significantly outperformed the main cryptocurrency in price dynamics in recent weeks: ETH rose above $1.97K, while Bitcoin held above $65K.

What Happened With Bitcoin and Ethereum

By the end of the week ending July 26, the price of Bitcoin remained above $65K. During this period, the asset gained about 1%. This is already the fourth consecutive week of growth: since June 29, the price of BTC has increased by about 10%.

Ethereum looked stronger. Over the past week, ETH grew by about 5%, and over the same multi-week period, it added about 24%. The altcoin’s price rose above $1.97K, marking a two-month high: such levels were last seen on June 2.

As of 9:45 a.m. MSK on July 27, Bitcoin was trading slightly below $65.5K, while Ethereum was holding around $1.97K. For investors, this is an important signal: the market is once again closely watching not only Bitcoin but also the digital asset associated with the Ethereum network.

Ethereum ETF Gathered More Money Than Bitcoin Funds

Spot exchange-traded funds for Bitcoin in the United States ended the week with a net inflow of almost $34M, according to SoSoValue data. Meanwhile, Ethereum funds attracted nearly $104M over the same period.

This is the third consecutive week that both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have shown positive results after an eight-week period of outflows. An important detail: ether-based products have outpaced Bitcoin ETFs in net capital inflows for two weeks in a row.

Do Ethereum ETFs Exist and What Types Are There

Yes, Ethereum ETFs exist: spot exchange-traded funds for Ethereum are already trading in the US, and for the week ending July 26, they attracted nearly $104M in net inflows. A spot Ethereum ETF is an exchange-traded fund whose price follows the current value of ETH. In contrast, a futures ETF is based on contracts for future prices, and a trust structure is more often used as a wrapper for asset storage and issuing shares to investors.

How To Choose and Buy an Ethereum ETF

There is no universal “best” Ethereum ETF: the choice depends on the investor’s goals, product availability with the broker, and trading conditions. Before buying, it is useful to quickly compare key parameters.

  • Fees and expenses: how much the investor pays for owning the fund and making transactions with it.
  • Liquidity and market price: how easy it is to buy or sell a share of the fund without significant deviation from fair value.
  • Net asset value: how the market price compares to the assets inside the product.
  • Provider and structure reliability: who manages the fund, how the trust, portfolio, and disclosure in the prospectus are organized.
  • Return and risk: potential capital gains, ETH volatility, currency rate impact, and the final position value.

The buying process is usually simple: you need a brokerage account with access to exchange-traded funds, then the investor finds the ETF by ticker, checks the fee, prospectus, and price, and then places an order through the broker or trading platform. Availability depends on the country, investor status, and the rules of the specific broker; in the US, such products are traded as regulated exchange-traded funds.

Among the major Ethereum ETFs watched by market participants is the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF with the ticker ETHA, associated with iShares and BlackRock. In the US, such products are in the SEC-regulated field; it is important for investors to understand how an investment company and ETF differ from a mutual fund, how they are affected by the Investment Company Act of 1940, and why certain digital assets may fall under commodity market regulations.

Ethereum ETF or Direct ETH Ownership

An ETF is convenient for those who want access to ETH price dynamics through a familiar brokerage account. Direct Ethereum ownership means buying the cryptocurrency itself and storing the asset independently.

  • ETF pros: easy purchase through a broker, regulated structure, no need to store private keys or cryptocurrency yourself.
  • ETF cons: there are fees, the investor owns a share of the fund and not ETH directly, trading depends on the platform’s schedule and broker’s rules.
  • Direct ETH ownership pros: the investor gets the asset itself and is fully responsible for operations with it.
  • Direct ETH ownership cons: you must independently monitor the wallet, security, and access to the asset.

The Overall Picture in the Crypto Market

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization reached $2.24T. Over the past day, the figure rose by about 2%.

About half of the top 100 coins by capitalization on the Coinmarketcap list showed growth in the range up to 50%. The most notable daily gain was by Pumpfun with the ticker PUMP—about 10%. The biggest drop was by Shiba Inu with the ticker SHIB: its quotes fell by about 10%.

The weekly growth leader was Audiera with the ticker BEAT: the coin gained about 50%. The biggest drop was Midnight with the ticker NIGHT—about minus 25%.

Investor Sentiment Remains Cautious

The crypto market fear and greed index is at 30 out of 100. This is the “Fear” zone, almost next to “Extreme Fear.”

Such market sentiment shows that many participants are still inclined to sell cryptocurrencies, despite the growth of Bitcoin, the strengthening of Ethereum, and the inflow of funds into ETFs. For a financial adviser, this is a reason to remind clients about risks: the price of digital assets can change quickly, dividends from such instruments are usually not the main factor, and the investor’s final net worth depends on discipline, investment horizon, and portfolio quality.

The assessment of such products is also influenced by options (finance), stock liquidity, trading rules on platforms like the New York Stock Exchange, public-key cryptography mechanics, bureau de change operations, environmental, social, and governance approaches, and interest in thematic investing. But the main focus remains the same: Ethereum has strengthened its position against Bitcoin, and the inflow of money into Ethereum ETFs has become one of the key signals of the week. The dates 2024-01-01T00:00:00.00 and 2026-07-28T19:40:00.00 in analytical systems can be used as technical timestamps for comparing periods and value (economics) dynamics.
