According to a recent poll on the decentralized prediction platform Polymarket, 74% of participants are betting that the US government shutdown will not end before October 15.
Polymarket: the US shutdown will last at least until October 15
On the page titled “When will the government shutdown end” almost 70% are sure that the government will not resume work at least until the middle of the month.
This figure has risen sharply: as of October 2, such bets were only 43%. So in just a few days, the share of pessimists increased by almost 30%.
At the same time, only 22% now believe that the shutdown will end between October 10 and 14. A week ago, this was 45%, meaning a drop of 23 percentage points.
Trump administration warns of mass layoffs
The pessimistic mood on Polymarket coincides with the fact that the shutdown in the US has been going on for a week. Democrats and Republicans have still not reached an agreement on government funding.
A temporary bill is now being prepared for a vote in Congress, which would extend the budget until November 21. However, the chances of it passing remain low.

The Trump administration has repeatedly stated that if Congress does not find a budget compromise, it could lead to mass layoffs. The White House has started looking for places to cut spending. According to press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the president has already given the relevant order.
“We believe layoffs could begin soon,” Leavitt said.
While politicians cannot reach an agreement, representatives of the crypto industry are calling to set aside differences and continue work on digital regulation. In their opinion, not just new rules are at stake, but the future of the entire industry.
“It is important for Congress not to lose momentum. We urge both sides to continue working together, as has already happened more than once in the context of crypto legislation,” the Blockchain Association said in a statement.
