TRON Will Move to Quantum-Resistant Security by 2026, Justin Sun Says

Key points:

  • TRON plans to launch a testnet with quantum attack protection in the second quarter of 2026. They want to update the mainnet as early as the third quarter.
  • Justin Sun is betting on post-quantum security. According to him, this will become a key requirement in the era of artificial intelligence development.
  • TRON even states its goal is to become the first network resistant to quantum threats.

For now, such risks remain mostly theoretical. There is still no real threat to cryptography in practice. But major players have already started preparing in advance.

This year, development in this direction has accelerated at Ethereum, Solana, Coinbase and Google. They are also working to increase the resilience of their systems to possible quantum attacks.

Justin Sun Bets on TRON Quantum Security

Justin Sun wrote on X that TRON is already preparing quantum security. First, they want to test it on the testnet. This should happen in the second quarter of 2026.

If the tests go well, the mainnet will be next. It is planned to be updated in the third quarter.

Sun presents this as an attempt to make TRON the first network able to withstand quantum threats.

“It is important for crypto projects to look not only at the benefits of AI, but also at the risks. The main risk now is related to quantum computing and the possibility of hacking,” he noted.

Sun believes that protection from such threats will become a mandatory element in the future. In his opinion, the risks of data decryption make post-quantum security a top priority. He also emphasized that users’ funds on the network must remain protected even as AI develops.

TRON is not the only one moving in this direction. Major projects have already started working on similar solutions.

In March, Ethereum Foundation developers launched a separate site dedicated to post-quantum security. According to their estimates, base-level updates could be completed by 2029. However, full migration will take even longer.

Solana is already testing post-quantum digital signatures on its testnet.

Coinbase has not stood aside either. In January 2026, Brian Armstrong announced a new council. It will deal with quantum risks and blockchain security.

Google has taken a similar path. The company has already set a target for 2029. By then, it wants to switch to post-quantum cryptography.

With TRON everything is still based on promises. The deadlines sound ambitious, but they still need to be met. If the network succeeds, competitors will definitely pay closer attention to this topic.

But updating the blockchain itself is not enough. Wallets, exchanges, and smart contracts will also have to be upgraded. And this may take more time than it seems.

There is also the technical side. New algorithms are heavier than usual. They may put more load on the network and affect speed.

That is why projects are in no hurry to roll everything out to the mainnet right away. First, tests. Then individual elements. And only after that, a full transition.
