The World Liberty Financial (WLFI) project, associated with Donald Trump, has come under pressure: since the beginning of September, its token has lost more than half its value.
To stop the decline and restore investor confidence, the team announced the launch of a large-scale token buyback and burn program.
Sharp price drop

According to CoinMarketCap, on September 1, WLFI was priced at $0.46. By the end of the month, the price had fallen to $0.19, which means a drop of 58%. Over the week, the token fell by 12.8%, and over the month — by 15.4%.
This is not the project’s first attempt to intervene in market dynamics. Back on September 3, the team burned 47 million tokens, trying to compensate for a 31% drop immediately after launch. However, the measures turned out to be temporary.
How the buyback program works
According to a community-approved proposal, WLFI will direct 100% of protocol-owned liquidity (POL) fees to buy back tokens from the market. All repurchased coins will be sent to a burn address, permanently reducing their supply.
The team emphasizes that the system directly links platform growth and supply reduction. The higher the trading activity and commission fees, the more funds go to buybacks and the faster the number of tokens in circulation decreases.
Important detail: the program only concerns liquidity controlled by the protocol on Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Solana. External liquidity pools remain unchanged so as not to create pressure on the ecosystem.
Focus on long-term investors
According to the developers, the new strategy should strengthen the positions of holders who view WLFI as a long-term investment. Each burn round increases the relative share of remaining investors and reduces opportunities for short-term speculation.
To increase trust, the project promised full transparency — all transactions will be visible on the blockchain and published in real time.
WLFI in the “buyback mania” trend
WLFI’s decision fits into a broader trend. More and more DeFi protocols are using fees to support their tokens.
- Hyperliquid directs almost all fees to automatic buybacks of HYPE tokens. Since the beginning of 2025, the project’s fund has bought over 20 million tokens worth more than $1.5 billion.
- Jupiter spends half of its fees on buybacks of $JUP, locking them for three years.
- Raydium allocates 12% of its revenue to $RAY, already removing 71 million tokens from circulation, a quarter of the total supply.
- Sky has burned $75 million of its own tokens since February 2025, increasing their scarcity and governance weight.
The trend has gone beyond cryptocurrencies. More and more public companies are using share buybacks to stabilize prices. Among them are the advertising company Thumzup Media, which expanded its program to $10 million, and DeFi Development Corp, which increased its share buyback plan from $1 million to $100 million.
What this means for WLFI
For WLFI, the buyback program is an attempt not only to stop the decline, but also to show investors the project’s willingness to fight for the token’s long-term value. However, the question remains: will a single burn mechanism be enough to restore confidence in an asset that has lost more than half its value in just a month?
