Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new payment platform for AI agents, which the company is developing together with Coinbase and Stripe.

AWS said that AI agents will be able to independently pay for APIs, web content, MCP servers, and other online services using stablecoins. All transactions will be processed automatically and with virtually no delays.

Later, the system is expected to expand to support larger purchases. The company is already considering scenarios such as booking hotels, buying tickets, and paying for goods through AI agents.

The new platform is called Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments. AWS believes that such tools will become part of the future economy, where AI can independently interact with services and make payments without human involvement.

The first version of Bedrock AgentCore Payments focuses on micropayments. AI agents will be able to automatically pay for APIs, data, premium content, and other digital services, sometimes for very small amounts.

The platform is based on the x402 protocol from Coinbase, which is designed for payments between AI agents using stablecoins. The Privy service from Stripe is used to connect wallets.

Brian Foster, head of Infrastructure Growth at Coinbase, believes that in the future, AI agents will conduct more transactions online than humans.

"Very soon, AI agents will be making more transactions than people. They need money made for the internet: programmable, available 24/7, and global," he said.

A similar view has previously been expressed by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, and Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson. In their opinion, over time, a significant portion of online activity will shift to AI agents.

Stripe said that the launch of Bedrock AgentCore Payments is part of the company's broader strategy to create financial infrastructure for autonomous trading between AI services.

"If AI agents are to become full participants in the economy, they need a way to store and spend money," said Privy head Henri Stern.

AWS also reported that the system is not limited to x402. Currently, the platform supports this standard first, but in the future, the list of payment solutions is expected to expand.

The main idea of the project is to create infrastructure through which AI agents can independently carry out commercial operations on behalf of users.

Warner Bros. Discovery, which is already testing Bedrock AgentCore, said it is considering using such payments for premium content, including sports broadcasts and major entertainment releases.
